MCN-SEL-883111

Silurian, late Ordovician, 430 million years old
Erfoud, Morocco

Crinoids are some of the Earth’s earliest animals. They have managed to survive and evolve through several global climate changes and mass extinctions. Scyphocrinites had a lobolith, which is a floating sphere that keeps an animal afloat in water. Unlike other crinoids, Scyphocrinites hung upside down at the surface.
